Things are getting started now at the Allianz Kundler German Juniors supported by OPTIMAL SYSTEMS. On Tuesday the matches of the junior girls’ and boys’ main rounds start. It is gratifying that 14 German junior boys entered the main round thanks to their ranking place, a wildcard or their success in the qualifying, as well as 10 German junior girls.

The junior girls’ top favorites are second seed Katharina Hobgarski from Germany after or better together with Sofya Zhuk from Russia (No 1). The Chilean MarceloTomas Barrios Vera, No 7 world junior ranking, leads the boys’ tournament field, closely followed by Kaspar Ruud from Norway, No 14 worldwide. Two German talents, Tim Sandkaulen and Luis Wessels, belong to the group of seeded players and therewith to the group of potential winners, as well.

The following German youngsters qualified for the main rounds: Jule Niemeier and Anastazja Rosnowska for the girls, and Jan Simon Vrbsky und Adrian Oetzbach for the junior boys.

First main round matches start on Tuesday, 09.00 a.m.

At 10 a.m., Sunday morning, the first players of this year’s 39th International German Junior Championships walked onto the “Rot-Weiss” courts and launched the 56th international junior tournament at Lake Hundekehle. The first day already presented high-class tennis. The Berlin participants had to realize quickly that the standards in international junior tennis are high indeed.

Near the end of the last matches in first-round qualifying only two of the local talents, Leon Czarnikau and Marvin Schramm, had managed to progress to the second round of qualifying. Two other players still had a chance to advance.

On the following weekend the Allianz Kundler German Juniors, the International German Junior Championships, will start. The LTTC “Rot-Weiss” can look back on a history of 56 years of international junior tournaments. Many future international stars won in Berlin, Boris Becker, Ivan Lendl, Steffi Graf, Claudia Kohde-Kilsch and - more recently - Timea Bacsinszky (semifinalist in Paris, 2015), Sara Errani or Sabine Lisicki.

Many top players from 42 different nations have qualified for the Berlin main draw. It is especially gratifying that some young German talents are counted among the favorites again.

The International German Juniors will have a superb field of participants in 2015. Though the entry list is not final yet, 31 of the Top 100 Junior Boys have entered by now and 27 of the Junior Girls. There will be small changes but for sure we can look forward to a high class field with many future stars of tennis.

Today’s day of the finals of the International German Tennis Junior Championships at the LTTC “Rot-Weiss” did not differ from the rest of the tournament week, offering 800 spectators superior tennis and exciting matches but also – unfortunately – the daily rain shower.

The day began with a top-class junior girl final, competing in fact for the Moskow City Championship, because both competitors are from the Russian capital. After almost three hours of best women’s tennis, the match ended with the success of the more experienced Anastasiya Komardina, winning against her two years younger compatriot, Anna Kalinskaya who showed a lot of promise. An outstanding tennis talent! 6-4 in the last set was the result, after a very well balanced match. A striking success for Anastasiya who subsequently won her second title today – together with her doubles partner Anna Blinkowa (RUS) – against the singles finalist Kalinskaya and Aleksandra Pospelova (also RUS). A sensational week for Anastasiya Komardina. Her success in Berlin will jump up her position into the top ten of the junior world ranking.

The young swedish tennis talent Mikael Ymer (Photo) is causing a sensation at the International German Junior Championships in Berlin. Only 15 years old, he won all his matches, impressing the audience by holding his nerve and keeping a cool head even when faced with difficult situations. His competitor in the final is the one year older Indian Sumit Nagal, who has only lost one set in the tournament so far.  We can look forward to an exciting final between Nagal and the defense artist, Ymer.
