In the most spectacular and exciting final of the past years, the Russian Amina Anshba defeated the Swiss Rebeka Masarova in three sets in the single finals of the junior Girls’ at the International German Junior Championships. After three highly competitive hours Anshba’s victory was definite. The audience had seen the top of the line of tennis, with excellent rallies and changing leads. After being behind with 0-3 in the third set, Anshba turned the game and with that it was clear: on Tuesday, Masarova will not be the new Nr.1 of the junior world-rankings. Nevertheless, as the Nr. 2 she could shorten the distance to a few points. Understandable, that Masarova was not only disappointed about her defeat, but also about the missed opportunity. By the way, one should remember the names Masarova and Anshba, because they will soon appear on the results lists of the big tournaments.
As an exception it hardly rained during the second to last day of the International German Junior Championships at the LTTC “Rot-Weiss”. The two favourites of the female juniors only qualified themselves with difficulty for the final. The Swiss Rebeka Masarova, second on the world-rankings, misdealt a match point during the second set, lost the set in the tiebreak, but won the third set with a clear 6-2. The match of the Russian Amina Anshba, number twelve on the word-rankings, was more balanced. She lost the first set, managed to maintain the upper-hand during the second set, and finished the third set with a solid 6-1.
Once again Rudi Molleker proved his excellent shape in front of the organiser LTTC “Rot-Weiss”, his home club, on Friday. On a day that encountered a lot of rain and therefore started with an eight hour delay, Rudi not only had to show the best of his tennis abilities, but also had to demonstrate patience. After leading the first set, he had to hand it over to the faultlessly playing Jonas Ziverts. In the second set he was behind with a Break, but was able to secure the set with 7-5. With that, he had broken the Swede’s resistance. The third set was quite obvious for Molleker, who won with 6-3.
